Learning – Christian Education

Each week, our Sunday School offers a faithful, meaningful program for children and youth. We meet as a group in our Lower Hall at 10:20 am to have a time of worship and games together before dividing into our age appropriate classes. We join our whole church community at around 11:15 am for time with our Church Family Together, prayer, hymn and commissioning.

Nursery care is provided for infant children to age two.

Our 3, 4, and 5 year olds participate in the Young Children and Worship curriculum. Children and Worship is an exciting, unique way to present Bible stories to children. It is a worship approach to help children experience and learn about God. The program was developed by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman. It provides an environment where children may meet God through Space, Liturgy and Bible Stories. Children participate in a full worship service which includes a Biblical story, prayers, songs and their own responses to the message. Responses to the message may happen in the form of painting, colouring, making a craft, or retelling the story using the wooden figures, or the desert box.

The Teen Class meets weekly on Sunday morning. We also enjoy social events and are able and eager workers for the Shrove Tuesday dinners, congregational barbeques and other outreach programs. Every October, the Teens participate in the 30 Hour Famine campaign starting at 6:00 am at our church on Saturday morning and finishing Sunday with a lunch in NSJ Hall.

Wednesday Evenings present a time of learning for the whole family. Throughout the year, 6 or 8 week courses are offered starting at 6:00 pm with a family dinner costing $3.00 per person. At about 6:30 pm, we divide into our study groups. For adults we offer a seminar group examining various current/community topics like volunteering, finances, prayer shawls, labyrinths, medical topics, etc and a Biblically-based book study. For youth we offer a meeting for games, study, and fellowship. Email Cam McCuaig (cmccuaig@newstjames.com) for more details.

Adult Bible Studies are offered on Monday nights at 6:30 pm. All are welcome to attend. Various topics are studied throughout the year.

Vacation Bible Camp is offered yearly during the March Break. We are always looking for volunteers for this program as well as participants. If you are interested in either, please email Cam McCuaig (cmccuaig@newstjames.com).
